He would let the artist
play and built the track around what the artist did naturally. To me
it captures the essence of what the artist is and not what the
producer thinks the artist should be and sound like. I usually do the
bed tracks at one of a few of great studios in my area and then do all
the overdubs and vocals etc in my home studio to keep the cost down. I
think that finding a great mixer and the right mixer for the project
is just as important as the time you spend laying the tracks down.
There are some terrific mixers here in the Toronto area (Jeff Wolpert
comes to mind). I like to think that because I come from an artist
background that I'm a little more tuned into how the artist is feeling
and that I have a good 'boardside manner'. I have worked with some of
the best in the business Daniel Lanois, Bob Rock,
David Tyson, and Scott Litt to name a few. Hopefully some
of their magic has rubbed off over the years. If you are looking for a producer, check out my
Shed my Sin cd. If you like what you hear and have
any questions please feel free to contact me.
